I grew up on a farm with lots of chickens, ducks, horses, sheep, and more! So animals have always been a huge part of my life, and for a long time I wanted to be a veterinarian. Life had other plans however, and I spent years in customer service instead including a stretch learning more about coffee than any one person needs to know. Then, I came to Coastal Pet Sitting in 2022 as a sitter. Kim had been running it since 2005, and I have watched a lot of people come and go in my time as sitter. When Kim decided she couldn’t keep doing both jobs and wanted to pursue her veterinarian career, Bella and I came together to buy and takeover the business! I’d been here long enough to know what the company was and what it could be,  so we bought it rather than watch twenty years of work close down.

Almost everything we do happens when nobody’s home. Someone hands you a key and trusts that what you said you’d do is what actually happened. That’s why the standards have to be real written protocols every sitter trains on, W-2 employees rather than contractors, and a review behind every visit report we send. I still work visits most weeks, which is the only honest way to know what we’re asking of our team. The part of this job I didn’t expect: you stay long enough with a family and their animal stops being a client’s pet. You watch them grow up. And when the day comes that the owner has to make that decision, you understand what a privilege it was to have been there for the whole of it. At home there’s Suko and Amara, our two malamute mixes. When I’m not working I’m slowly bringing my father’s farmhouse back,  it sat dormant more than a decade, and getting Brentwood Farms going again is the long project behind all of this.
